Thanks again, I'm grateful for your response. I haven't heard anything yet, although I had an email from Capital One saying they had noticed the direct debit had been cancelled, today is the first day one of them won't have been paid the next on will be on Thursday. I will try and calm down.

I had planned on starting to make payments in March - sending an I & E in the New Year with an offer of payments - I've been using NEDCAB which has generated a reference number for the holding letters.

Should I hold off paying anything until I have heard about the CCAs or just start in March as planned?

    Thanks

    Hi Ash,

The debt collection process can take a very long time to kick into gear, nothing moves as fast as you may think it does.

Take it at your own pace, and do what you are comfortable with.

I think I'm just more than a little anxious at the moment - I had a period of relative calm but that's disappeared!

Perhaps I am underestimating the time things will take to happen but I can't seem to think about anything else at the moment. My comfort zone right now would be somewhere with sand where I could bury my head!

You'll be fine - trust in the process. It isn't always plain sailing, no, but if you remain positive and keep organised, you'll soon get the hang of things. You're in the very early stages and that is the most nervy time for new DMPers, its natural, but you've got the ball rolling and you now just need to roll with it. Do try not to fret (easer said than done, I know), just come on here and ask questions as and when you need to. We've all been where you are now - so you're in good hands :)

My DMP is plodding along quite nicely despite me having to reduce my payments twice now,I have had some what I consider hairy moments over the year but all in all I'm so glad I came here and got some excellent advice
I hope you and yours have a merry festive season too
    Original Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,510 Owed = £11,120
  • My second creditor contacted me today by letter I'm glad to say,it was Barclays and they wrote to say my debt has been passed on to the PRA group, there was also a letter from PRA stating that they had bought the debt from Barclays and that I should just carry on with my current payment plan
I'm just waiting for Westcott to contact me now and that will be all of them responding to my lower payments
I must say so far it's been quite stress free,I was so worried about having to lower my payments and I really needn't have been, from now on I'm going to try really hard not to get so worked up about it all
This first year has been a learning curve for me but it's all positive so it's onwards and upwards from now on

  • Hi all,
DMP a few months in now and plodding along fairly well. 2 defaults so far out of 5!
I’ve had a letter today to say MBNA have become part of the Lloyds banking group. Will continue as a separate bank and nothing will change.

However, I bank with Lloyd’s, have done a long time, have two accounts there.
I haven’t changed banks as I had no debts with Lloyd’s or Halifax.
But I have a DMP arrangement now with MBNA. Are they likely to try and offset from Lloyd’s? Is this even possible?

Wishing everyone all the best for Christmas x

Does anyone know if hsbc are usually slow to acknowledge a dmp? I haven't had anything from them yet I set holding letters at the start of November and StepChange contacted them towards the end of November.

I have no experience of this, but I would have thought that as long as you keep to your repayment plan, there should be no reason they'd exercise the right to offset, even if they could.

Some creditors can be painfully slow and some of mine never actually acknowledged the DMP, but they accepted the payment from StepChange without question. I wouldn't worry, whether they formally accept or not, SC will just send them whatever they'd set the payment at.
  • I thought MBNA were already part of Lloyds? I thought Lloyds took them over a while ago.
