They have sent the refunds to L**K which I'm okay with - because those accounts are enforceable ones - but the good news is that in doing so both balances have dropped quite significantly and as I continue to only make token payments I can now easily clear what's left and effectively close those accounts. That will leave me with one enforceable (only paying tokens) and 3 x UEs.
I'm assuming when you say you can clear those L...K accounts you mean by making F&Fs, or did Barclays repay so much that you plan to pay the full remaining balance just to be rid of them?0 -
Hi all. 6 years ago I came here for advice on my debts, over £41000. After setting up a DMP and sticking with it I can now say I only have 4 more payments to make and I will be totally debt free. To all of you thinking about taking out a DMP, please do it, not easy at first but it is great to see the debts going down, no hastle from creditors and I also now only have 2 defaults on my credit file. Good luck to you all on your journey to being debt free[STRIKE]outstanding debts £39,000[/STRIKE] £0:j1

Great news on being so near the end of the debt tunnel. Well done:beer:. Thanks for coming back to encourage those starting out or still wavering:T
I'm a big fan of DMPs too and don't know what I'd have done without one:o0 -

Hi Ineedcash we are both on the same sort of debt size and the same sort of timeline. Only 4 more for me too. As you say its a great feeling to see the end of the tunnel. Hoping that these 6 years have actually taught me and family something. The kids have had to understand sometime no we cant afford it. So a least they know you cant get everything straight away too. It's the latter, the refund reduced the balances that were above £1k each down to less than £50 in total, so I plan to just clear those to get rid, yesI'm hoping that in 2019 I'll be able to get rid of the remaining ones through F&Fs of one form or another. I know I could walk away from the UE ones and the defaults will fall off the files next year, but I just want the slate wiped clean and not have this at the back of my mind anymore.

Thanks, Suseka:T. Sorry if I came across as nosy or intrusive when I asked you about clearing the debts:o.
That was obviously a sizeable refund. I'm so happy for you:j
I know exactly what you mean about wiping the slate clean, I feel exactly the same. If I were 10 years younger I'd happily sit it out but as things stand and with a squeaky clean credit file due by this time next year I don't want anything unexpected or nasty to jump up and bite me in the future:eek:. It's the not knowing that would be worst, I need the reassurance that once I've settled my debts by F&Fs that's the last I'll ever hear of them. Peace of mind is well worth the small amount it will cost (hopefully) to pay off the UE ones. I'm leaving those until last and concentrating on picking off the enforceable ones first. One's been accepted and about to be paid as soon as I receive the confirmation letter. Offers (plus I&Es which they asked for) already sent for the others. Now all I have to do is wait patiently:rotfl: for responses.0 -
It's constant calls yesterday and today from 2 of my creditors. Both of whom I contacted asking for the usual 30 days and advising of DMP. Do you suggest I email them reminding them of this?

Don`t you have a call blocking service ?
Or a phone you can block calls on ?
Some phone service providers also offer this service.

Hi everyone, first poster here.
Firstly just wanted to say thank you to you all for sharing your experiences and supporting each other.
I've felt very alone in my ditch of debt, but reading all these tales of support and encouragement has made me feel that I have a brighter future.
Only just found out about DMPs after struggling for the past 10 years and can't wait to get mine into action and take control of this beast.
A couple of quick questions if I may.
Does having a DMP affect any future remortgaging? We've only just remortgaged so have 5 years fixed but thinking into the future.
My wife doesn't know about my debts and I don't want her to get involved as she suffers from anxiety and depression and I don't want it or the DMP to affect her health. Is it possible to keep these things personal without spouses credit rating etc?
Is it best to put all debt onto a DMP or can you choose the worst ones to just go on?
Thanks again for any help anyone can give.
You guys rock.0
