  • Thank you for the advice guys I will do that this evening.
  • I think the best way around it is just to put my wifes statutory maternity as income as thats what she will drop down to in a few months anyway! Would that be a good route to go down?

Absolutely - no point putting in a higher amount and then having to adjust. Best to start off low and, if you can, save towards F&Fs - or just spend that little extra on the family as and when you need it. Try not to overthink this too much - easier said than done I know. Just make sure the 'disposable income' part is reasonable so your repayment amounts are therefore sustainable given the situation.
  • Hi all!

So, I'm currently on a DMP with Stepchange and am thinking of going self managed (I only have 3 debts left) I've recently sent a CCA request with the £1 fee to Link Financial on the 1st October who haven't responded at all yet and I understand the debt is unenforceable until I receive a response. I want to be able to reduce my payments to Link until I do so I can save towards a F&F if appropriate but I don't think I'm able to whilst with Stepchange.

I have signed up to NEDCAB but do I need to send another statement of income/expenses again as I've only just had my budget review in September? The payment amounts differ in NEDCAB than what I'm currently paying each creditor in Stepchange and I ideally don't want these to change as two of these repayment amounts are significantly lower in Nedcab.

I hope this makes sense, it's a little difficult to explain in writing and I'm still pretty much a newbie at all of this!
    Thanks!

    Hi all

I've not been posting on here for a while. Just slowly plodding along n the background. I do read regularly and well done to all who have taken the plunge into DMP land. It really has saved me :D

Anyway have been paying BC token payments on 2 accounts for a while now and today received 2 letters one for DH and one for me. Both letters state that due to them not treating us correctly when we informed them of our financial difficulties they will be refunding £12 to our smallest BC and £75 to our bigger one. Also they are repaying us £75 EACH back to our bank account for any stress caused.

It says that the £75 each cannot be taken from our BC accounts and MUST be paid directly to us.

I have no idea how they didn't treat us fairly as they have been very accommodating with us all the way along. Not that I'm complaining because £150 straight to our bank account is not to be sniffed at. :)

Has anyone else received letters like this?

I haven't logged in for ages, so I'm sure there are lots of new people here on their DMP journey. Mine had a hiccup when SC closed my account due to my disorganisation, not getting back to them in time to do a new budget. I had so much going on in my life at the time, and just didn't have the mental health or energy to deal with everything. Anyway, I did the whole "ignore it and hope it goes away" thing, but today have restarted on a self-managed basis.

I am kicking myself slightly, as both my remaining debts have gone to DCAs, Lowell and Intrum. I'm looking at paying for the next 20-30 years as it stands, and am hopeful I might get into a position where I could offer them a full and final amount at some point. If not that, then maybe I can find a way to offer them more than £5 a month each.

It's frustrating to know that the original amount I borrowed has long ago been paid off, and all the remaining debt is the interest charged on my old cards. It's also annoying that the DCAs will not have paid much for the debts, but will want the whole amount from me. However, I do acknowledge that I owe the money, and am committed to chipping away at it. I'm going to concentrate my energy on finding creative ways to cut my spending, and make extra money.

@motivated, no, I haven't had anything like that, but can hope for it, I guess! Great news for you. :)

One thing that did happen when my DMP was with Step Change was that I overpaid Santander, and a couple of years after clearing the debt they sent me a cheque.

Hi motivated I got a letter out the blue too from BC and was given £125 which was taken off my BC cc balance again not sure why but one point in Aug 2016 they tried to apply full interest. I questioned it but they say as was paying above minimum amount it reverted to normal. Then they just stopped applying interest altogether. This has meant that as of 1st Nov i will have paid that debt off in full so happy enough not to question either. Was a former Egg one so maybe theirs some other PPI kind of thing they are trying to avoid but i didnt have PPI on that card so wont argue too much. enjoy the winfall.

Thankyou both. I wondered for a moment whether it was a scam letter :rotfl:
