No the purchase and the payment both appear together on my August statement.0

There's your problem. You paid it too early so it went to the BT.
You need the purchases to show on the statement before you made the payment.0 -

Let alone a money transfer card (or balance transfer for that matter) you should always ONLY pay after the statement is produced.0
