need help with an estimate!?

Hi all,

I am now £11k lighter with my debts so going to be moving on my own. The only cost I can't really estimate is gas/electric. So can anyone who lives on their own in a 1 or 2 bed flat let me know what they spend monthly on gas/electric so I can budget for it.

All help appreciated.

Cheers.

honestly? It depends on the sort of place.

We are in a 2 bed house now, and it costs us a fortune, the boilers old and the sash windows are ancient & drafty. I try to wear about 10 jumpers on cold days.

My old 2 bed flat cost 35 pcm with ecotricity and that was for everything as we had no gas. however, it was a brand new flat, double glazed and lovely and warm ( although baking in summer)

50 should be about the tops youd pay tbh
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

It will depend a lot on how well insulated the flat is obviously and how efficient the heating is.

There are two of us in a 3 bed modern house and pay about £20 per month for electricy and £10 for gas. We are out all day weekdays, though.

If you are going for a rented property, ask the current tenants how much they pay for electricity and gas.

I agree with lynzpower - budget for £50 per month and you should be fine.

If its a new build I end up renting it will be cheaper as they always install those economy 7 heating systems which are cheap but luckily I dont really get that cold and I am always going to be out all day of a weekday. But £50 I think I can do just nice to be able to get a good headsup before I get stung :rotfl:

economy 7 heating systems ... I am always going to be out all day of a weekday.

They work by heating up overnight, at a cheaper tariff.... then during the daytime releasing the heat, which is great ... except you won't be there!

That aside, I lived alone in a big old house, 6 bedrooms, not insulated, I stuffed newspapers under the doors as draught excluders, but still the chimneys were open .... and I used to spend about £50/month on gas/elec (together in total). A lot of the time I was at home 24/7 too, working from home.

Now I am living in a studio, about 15' square in total. Storage heaters, but never turned it on. I use an electric fan heater. Electricity is all I have. Bill seems to be working out under £1/day so far. It has an immersion heater which I never use (no point heating all that water up to wash a few dishes, so I boil a kettle); electric shower; fridge; PC; portable TV; fan heater; lights (which I don't have on a lot to be honest, I usually sit in the dark); washing machine (used once a fortnight); kettle.
