Lowell CCJ

Hi all,
I have a CCJ with Lowell for a provident load granted in late 2017, I have managed to get this (and other debts) written off but it is still showing as active on my credit file as it was not paid but written off as a good will gesture, what im asking is if there is a way to mark this CCJ as a zero balance on my credit file, Lowell are not willing to update this so wondered if there was another way to do this.

Hi Chris0107 and welcome to MSE,
This is an unusual situation, as it is rare for creditors to agree to write off CCJ's once they have been granted. So, I would suggest contacting one of the credit reference agencies and asking them how they would mark it, based on the proof you send them that the creditor agreed to write off the debt, after a judgement was granted.
It would make sense for the balance to show as £0, but a judgement cannot show as partially settled, and as it wasn't paid off it cannot show as fully settled. This is why you should talk to the credit agencies to try and ascertain what else may be marked against the judgement to show the creditor choose to write it off. It will also show for 6 years from the date of judgement. If the credit agencies refuse to update the file then you can escalate the matter to the Information Commissioner's Office.

I don't know the full facts but consider whether adding a 'Notice of Correction' to your CRA file to explain the situation may be helpful (or not).
A Notice of Correction could be a way of accepting that the information is correct but you want to explain why/how it happened to put things in context.
What is the CRA marker situation with the other debts which were written off?

Hi, i will contact credit reference agencies and see what they say, the other debts are the same (all showing as active still), all with Lowell as well, didn't think to do a notice of correction either, give that a go too.....

I don't know anything about the other debts which Lowell wrote off but the accounts should vanish from your CRA file six years to the day the default was registered, so will that be soon?
The CCJ will stay for six years too (regardless of the default date) but a Notice of Correction should prevent auto credit scoring because the searcher will be asked to search manually where they will see your NOC.
Good Luck with your financial history clean-up
