Oak worktops for tv cabinet

Hi,

I'm planning to make my own tv unit which will run along a wall for 1.5m then continue across an alcove for another 1.5m but this part is obviously deeper due to the alcove.
My plan is to make the carcass out of pine and then use a solid oak worktop for the visible top and side. So the oak would be 3m in length and then 40cm deep for half and approx. 70cm deep for the other half.
However, I've just read on the worktop retailer's website that a 4-5mm expansion gap is required. Does this still apply in a living room (no moisture?) and mean that I can't scribe it to the wall? I want it to look neat and an upstand isn't appropriate for a living room.
Do I have to worry about expansion in the pine too?

Thanks for any advice offered.
