Hi All,
I have been on ESA for nearly 12 months, and just recently had my WCA. Still awaiting the result. I have been on permitted work of up to 16 hrs since I first claimed. I have finally, after much searching, found a suitable job for my disability for twenty hours per week. I could start in a few days, but wont get paid for 5 weeks. I have been paying my bills inc mortgage, with my benefits, small earnings and frineds family help, that is now seriously fatigued. I have 5 weeks to go, and I guesss my ESA stops the minute I tell them, on my start date of the job? I dont have HBenefit, so that roll is not relevant...I have seen that I might get a 'grant' from the job centre of £100. Thats a joke, I need food, gas l elctric, household bills for a month?! Any advice?? Thanks

Your ESA will stop the day you start working, yes. Job grants no longer exist and haven't done so since 2013. ESA is paid 2 weeks in arrears so you may have some money as your final payment. Other than that, there's no help that i know of. See link.Hi All,

Check what's in your area, depending on circumstances, you maybe able to claim either tax credits or Universal credit. If your area is a full UC area then it will be this and not tax credits. Of course it will depend on circumstances. http://ucpostcode.entitledto.co.uk/ucdate
Good luck with your job.0 -
Thanks..It is deplorable as I cant see any way of starting a job, and having zero money to live on for 5 weeks. The government absolutely stinks.0

It's the way your new employer runs their payroll - nothing to do with the Government. Could you ask for an advance of pay to tide you over?0 -

The only thing that I would normallyadvise you to look into is HB Extended Run-On for 4 weeks but as you don't claim HB that isn't relevant.
I started work nearly two weeks ago after nearly ten years on ESA and I wrote to both the DWP and the council regarding cancelling my ESA and LHA claims.
I was already having an issue with the LHA payments as my son who is a HE student, worked very PT during the summer holidays. He earnt around £60-70 a week and the council decided to deduct a Non Dependant Deduction (NDD) of around £15 a week. They have also backdated this so I am in theory "in debt" to them.
The NDD should not have been deducted and I have been going backwards and forwards with them trying to get of sorted out. It used to be so simple in that you used to able to go to the council and speak to them face to face. Now if is e-mails for me and letters from them.
When I told them that I had started work and expected the 4 week run on, they replied by e-mail within a day and told me that I can't get It because I need a letter from ESA first which I am still waiting for.
My dilemma is that I am not due to be paid until 7 October and my rent is due on Monday. The whole idea of the run-on is to assist with this transition from benefits to work and yet the council are making it so hard.
There isn't much point in me telling you all this except to let you know that I understand how you feel.0
