Shrewsbury, Shropshire any advice?

Hi I'm hoping the collective knowledge of MSE'rs may be able to help.
My DH & I are looking to relocate from London once our DD finishes high school in a couple of years. We are very tempted by Shrewsbury as it seem to have an ideal mix of countryside coupled with good facilities, history, reasonable house prices etc.
Does anyone know the area who could advise what they like/dislike about the area or if there are any particular areas that are better/worse than others?
Any opinions/advice gratefully received.
Thanks

Do you need to be near transport links easily?
Oswestry, Shifnal and Telford are all very similar to Shrewsbury with cheaper pricing.
If you need transport more towards Wolverhampton would be my suggestion0 -
I'm an Oswestry boy but went to college in Shrewsbury. Loved the place. Are you after town centre, suburbs, nearby village etc?An answer isn't spam just because you don't like it......0

Yes we would be relying on public transport.
Thanks for your suggestions but it's Shrewsbury and the immediate vicinity (up to about 3 miles from town centre) that I'm really focused on. We would not need to do a daily commute if that makes any difference. Thanks again0 -

I live in the area, having relocated from Hertfordshire 18 years ago.
We love it. The pace is so much quieter, property prices generally lower and there is a great mix of countryside, small towns, larger towns for shopping, and some great transport links.
Birmingham airport is great, but Liverpool and Manchester are within striking distance.
Coincidentally, our house is on the market. I haven't been brave enough to post it on here. We fell in love with it on sight, but the market is slow and it is not a 'bog standard' house. There are also new estates springing up around many of the market towns, if you prefer new builds.
Feel free to PM me if you want more info about the area.0 -
Diggingdude, Near to town centre would be great but in a peaceful location if possible.
Looking for pleasant environment that would still have access to facilities for a teenager.

Badger09, That's really helpful. Thank You0

Thank You for your advice so far. To be fair I did say up to 3 miles from town centre so I'm hoping it's possible to have accessible & peaceful. I don't mean tranquil with no noise just not endless police helicopters & sirens like my bit of London!
Thanks to everyone for their help0 -
