What ever u do, but extra years in your LGPS.

they will only let u buy a max of 6.66 years at the rate of x yrs per year, between now and 65.

So apply to buy the max of 6.66 BEFORE the 31 March 2008, when this facility is being withdrawn.

Forget ISAs, SIPPS, and other savings until u have done this.

Thanks for the heads up on this. I will get a quote. http://www.lgps.org.uk/ is rather sketchy on the details but do you happen to know whether added years can be bought with a lump sum or only by monthly payments?

My S&S ISA is with Hargreaves Lansdown and as it happens they wrote to me recently inviting me to a Financial Advice Open Day where I could have a 30 minute one-to-one meeting with one of their advisers. END QUOTE

I have had a few of these invitations and always ignore them. Not all from HL by the way. I just hate being hassled. HL send out an awful lot of mail once they have you as a client but I am going off them. I have been emailing, asking for a confirmation of recent Mini ISA instructions - result Nada. Then I noticed they had my cash just sitting there "waiting for instructions". What a shambles. At the time I placed the on-line instructions I even had a follow up discussion with one of their people but they deny all knowledge. I have asked for my money back so that I can go elsewhere for a change but I think it will be a while before they arrange it.
