50hz, 60hz or 100hz?

Hi.

My Tosh CRT is on it's last legs - 10+ years old; so I'm looking to replace it with another Tosh.

I was going to get the 37x3030DB 1920x1060 res http://www.gottatoshiba.com/catalog/product/37x3030db5%20special%20offer , but it appears to be only a 50hz.

The other option is the 37WLT68, which is 100hz but is only a 1366x768 res. http://www.gottatoshiba.com/catalog/product/37wlt68

I will only really be using it for normal viewing plus a bit of PS2 action - however, in the future, I might get a Wii (or whatever). I don't currently have SkyHD either.

Ignore the prices on the Tosh website; scandalous....

I would appreciate any comments.

Many thanks

  • Try Laskys

You will find that virtually all LCD and plasmas will cope with the 60Hz required for gaming

Refresh rates are a load of rubbish on a LCD/Plasma. They don't mean a damned thing. Refreshing was only needed on CRTs because of the way they worked. The dots making up an image would be bright for a few milliseconds before fading so needed to be "refreshed" to maintain the image. With LCD/Plasma, the pixels remain in a steady state until they're told to change so don't need refreshing.

Response time is more important but then again, that's marketspeak as well to a point.
