Loft AND basement conversion
Comments
-
We've just had both our loft and basements converted and are nearing a finishing stage. We now have a property over 4 floors.
The main things were:
- Fire door at very bottom (bottom of basement stairs)
- Fire door at very top (top of loft stairs)
- Mains connected smoke detectors in all habitable rooms
- 400mm of 'landing space' at top of loft stairs. I.e 400mm from top step to the fire door leading in to loft room
That's it. Building control are happy. You don't need fire doors throughout the whole property or a sprinkler system by default. The sprinkler system thing is dependent on how close your property is to a fire hydrant I think. If a fire engine can hook up to one and blast your house with water then you're ok.
From what I understand as well though, is that all of this can be different depending on your local building control officer and their opinions. You just need to get one round to tell you.0
