It is a mistake. Some more serious than others. And some people learn from them or not.
And as you don't know the circumstances surrounding it, maybe they were forced, maybe they were threatened, maybe they just did it for laugh, your censure could be misplaced. Since he's posting on the MSE froum that suggests hes' now got a handle on whatever it was.....yes?

The OP is now learning that although he might have been 16, his past mistake will keep pace with him for 6 years.
And he probably won't make that mistake again.

  • Put it down to a life lesson. You knew what you were doing was a crime so you must live with the consequences. However, after 6 years you will be able to open up a regular account and move on - this is a second chance so don't blow that by doing something stupid in the future.

You will rightly not be able to remove the CIFAS marker so you need to learn to live with it. By all means ask CAB/Student loans how it will affect student finance but I fear it will not be good news.

Try to be positive while waiting out the CIFAS marker - maybe think about apprenticeships with on the job training where you don't need to attend regular uni and need finance - accept the punishment, don't wallow in self pity or argue that it's unfair. Accept and move on, not easy I know but it'll make you feel better.

Yes the boy did wrong, he’s been caught, and now needs to wait out until cifas marker is removed.

But before you judge and get high and mighty, realise a lot of this is pushed by gangs and it’s not always as easy as saying no

But the current penalties the OP is facing will make it easier to say no than when your "mistake" will be written off after a year as teh OP seemingly wants.

Im not saying the punishment/penalty is excessive, i am just saying to all those judging and responding with a condescending answer that some things are not as easy as saying no, especially in inner-city communities
