TV makes a noise when switched on

I have just bought a second hand Sony Trinitron TV which makes a loud buzz as it is switched on. It has a 'tested for electrical safety' sticker on it and 'purchased 2001' was hand written on the instructions that were still with it.
It is in perfect condition and works fine with a great picture. I have a one month guarantee on it, so is this start up noise anything to be worried about?

We have a Sony Trinitron about the same age as yours and it has always made a loud buzz when switched on, as does my parents who have the same one. They've both worked for the past 6 years or so so we haven't worried too much about it!0

The loud buzz (if it only lasts for a second) is likely to be the screen de-guassing itself. This is normal operation in more expensive TV's and is designed to remove any stray magnetism building up in the CRT tube.
If you have a CRT computer monitor in the house then these have a similar function, which it might be worth trying to see if they sound similar. Usually you operate this manual through the menus, rather than it happening automatically in the TV0 -
Thanks for your replies.......... looks like I got a bargain at £30 then :j0

Yup, the buzz is actually caused by the de-gaussing coils slight movement on the rear of the CRT which get activated on switch on.0
