Applying for a credit card when 8 months pregnant

We're looking to do a balance transfer onto a new credit card, but my wife is 8 months pregnant and the card needs to be in her name.

When filling in the forms, it doesn't give any options for pending changes in circumstances, so she is answering the questions honestly. But I'm sure there is a fine line about fraudulent applications when it's pretty obvious that '0 dependents' isn't quite as accurate as the question would suggest.

Any help? We know we can call them up to discuss it, but that makes getting the best deal very difficult as it's not feasible to call all the card issuers and compare what they're offering. Especially as they almost certainly wont be doing soft searches.

Answer the questions honestly and there will be no issues. Currently you have no dependents so answering no to that question is true and accurate
  • The forms to apply for credit cards are very rigid and as soon as you have a non-standard situation they can't cope. Basically I would answer the questions as they apply to you on the date you are completing and signing the form. As of today you have zero dependants - that is a true and honest fact - you just need to be as black and white about it as the application form is.

Companies are well aware that situations change, and you could always contact the company after your child is born to let them know that your circumstances have changed (although I would probably recommend against this if you actually need the card). Having dependants will only make your affordability lower, and you won't get the best limits or interest rates as a result.
