  • To be clear, I'm sending to only Wescot in reply to their letter they sent me today.

They are asking for 11K from my dad and 4K from my mum. It's very crazy.
  • Another update I spoke to Natwest and gave them the information and they said it looks like Identity Fraud and that their fraud team is looking into it but they can take anything from 5-8 weeks.

But the letter on Westcot is saying to reply within 10 days so Natwest Card team said I should ignore those letters and Natwest Fraud team ill get back to us.

I told them I will send the template letter from this forum and they said yes to that also.

So basically Natwest is saying someone has made a fake online account in my Dad/Mum's name - Spent 15K and run away. So Natwest should also be able to see where this money was spent right and when etc?
  • Did your parents send a Subject Access Request to NatWest as suggested?

There should be one sent from each of them.

Hey guys, so to follow up on this.

The letter I got with the Natwest logo on it I handed it in to their branch and they said they would send it to their Card Services team. I never heard back from them.

Now since I posted just this morning a new letter has arrived with the WESCOT branded letter and their official letter asking for the money to be paid.

In the letter they have a reference number for Westcot and also a reference number from Natwest making it look very official.

I have never had a credit card in life, and never any account with Natwest.

Now I am sending off the letter as written in this thread where it asks for full proof.

What could this be? It's very annoying and also confusing.

    Hi,

As said before, stop speculating on this, send provit letter to Wescot and SAR to Natwest.

That should get all info they hold on your folks.

  • No I didn't do the Subject Access Request

We just gave in the letters to Natwest and they have raised it with their fraud team and they are supposed to get back to me. I gave the Credit Services guy over the phone all the info and he could see on his system the reference number under our names has been flagged and he said to wait for the Natwest Fraud team to get back to them which could be 5-8 weeks.

Even though I have this damn Westcot chasing up now asking for a reply within 10 days.

I will send the letter of the template tomorrow to Westcot. I've done it as linked.

Shall I still do a Subject Access Request too? Is that online or in mail also?

Shall I also report this to Action Fraud UK?
  • This is a SAR right?

Where it says fill in the kind of information you want, what do I even want? Any information on my account, I don't have an account with Natwest that's the thing. This is a fake account under my parents name so why should I even ask for it as if it's me?

I have a Natwest reference number, is that what I put there?

    We never made these accounts.

You can ignore letters from wescot, they are only managing the account on behalf of Natwest, they still take instructions from them, so as far as you are concerned they are of no importance.

Given the fact Natwest themselves think this is fraud, i would say in light of that to wait and see what transpires from there end.

This has shed a different light on the case.

  • Thanks Sourcrates

But should I still send an SAR to Natwest? And still send the other letter to Westcot?

    -

Natwest on the phone have said it looks like a case of Identity Theft and asked me where our letter box's are etc and if I noticed any mail not coming to us recently, I said no everything is fine.

He said it's on their system and has been flagged when I gave my surname and this "fake" Natwest Ref Number I have on Westcot's letter and he said you should ignore Westcot and wait for Natwest Fraud team to get back to us within 5-8 weeks from when the letter was alerted to Natwest wich was 2 weeks ago now

If I could find who took my parents details and made a fake online account....I wish seriously

Sending a SAR may get you the application details, but it will still be in your parents name, and address details will be there’s too, I cannot see a benefit to that at present.

As I said, Wescot can be ignored but if you want to stop the contact, write and tell them of NatWest’s suspicions with regard to the debts and tell them to refer the matter back to their client.

Then wait on the fraud teams response to you, take it from there.
