New pip claim

Options
Applied for PIP for my husband a couple of weeks ago by phone and have today received a letter askin for passport and a bill, have not yet filled out pip2 form where you have to explain how your disability affects daily life ECT. Is this normal? Does anyone know what it might mean?
Thanks

  • Hi there,
This might be of use "see turn to us" on the web site I can't post the link sorry

Depending on why you are making the claim you might want to ask for help. Some health conditions eg some cancers, motor neurone disease and others can be fast tracked if you have an "sepcialst person" making the clain for you etc

A quick telephone call to your local CAB ( Citizens Advice service) might be the way to go. They may then give you advice on other possible financial other help for you and your husband.

    Best wishes

  • It's for mental health reasons, he has a care coordinator so maybe they have been in touch with them. What exactly is fast tracked please?

Once you started a claim off it can take a couple of weeks to receive the PIP2 form about how your disability affects you. I would have no idea why they're asking for passport and a bill, you'll need to ring them and ask. No one here will be able to tell you why they want this. They open tomorrow morning at 8.

Remember, evidence will be needed to support the claim, they rarely contact anyone for this and the onus is on the claimant to make sure it's sent with the forms.
  • If you don't have a passport, usually they will accept other means of ID. See https://www.mypipassessment.co.uk/news/what-to-have-with-you-for-a-pip-consultation/. It says any two from the ID on the list.

I could be wrong but I think the ID is for when the face to face happens, not for when you make the application. Are you having problems reading the letter (not trying to be rude, I often go blank at any more than two lines and have to be quite careful)?

Would it be worth taking it to the CAB so they can explain things?

As another poster has suggested, it can be very useful to have help filling in the form. You can say the same thing two different ways, one will score points, the other won't. Its helpful to have the help of someone who knows how PIP scoring works.
  • They asked someone I know for a passport or other id. Reason because he missed out his middle name when applying. They were verifying it was the same person, computer said no originally.
