Started cold here but now sunny..I'm really feeling the cold lately [illness and old age really] so I've gone round opening all the curtins for some free heat.
Social interaction has dropped right down for me [ again, due to illness] but I am off out after to pick up a slow cooker from FB Mplace [£10 bargain] and will hopefully/maybe? go to the new butchers to see what bargains can be had. I'd like some skirt, make a stew and christen the cooker.
Thinking about doing DIY type gubbins, but haven't got the get up and go to do anything yet....
Nice day so far though...Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Morning folks.
Oh, it's still dark outside, more driving rain and windy.
I'm leaving here shortly, need to be at the body shop for about 9.30.
Hope all's well. I wish you all a happy Thursday.

I am laughing at myself, I thought you meant The Bodyshop, I was going to ask what you'r favourite range was. I am saving the pennies up to try the seaweed range (bit of a bodyshop fan!)0 -
Men are here to replace the guttering on the front of the cottage, one of those expensive jobs but has to be done. Have also ordered oil for heating so it is going to be an extremely frugal couple of months here. Trying to make a start on essential housework before sister in law arrives next week. To be fair she wouldn't care it is just my pride!0

Good afternoon from a sunny & very warm East London - not a cloud in the sky :T & has been like this all morning as well :j
:D
Managed 190 pieces of litter (bits of plastic, plastic bags, bottles, paper packaging etc) on my walk to the sm - all binned. Stops it blowing into the dock & harming the wildlifeThe crested grebes are back & nesting again with their 3 stripey youngsters
Also saw mallards, coots, Canada Geese & a single white swan
as well as the ubiquitous pigeons & seagulls
Had a few slices of bread to feed them - the Canada geese are quite scary as they keep pace along the dockside
Also got interviewed by 3 very pleasant young ladies - environmental studies - as all 3 are studying to be geography teachers. We parted company - all of us smiling
Elderly lady thanked me for litter picking - more smiles from me as it is nice to be appreciated
Sm wasn’t busy - more smiles & didn’t have to queue at checkout - even more smiles. Smiling anyway because the sun is shining
DH & DSis have gone on a Tip run & then off to pick up some decorative slabs.
Am sending copious (((hugs))) to everyone but especially the poorlies & those caring for poorlies.

Csarina - your OH will be eligible for a Blue Badge as he has Attendance Allowance. Perhaps you could also apply for the higher rate of AA which would still leave you some left over?
Last teaching session of the week finished. :j Got to the body shop by 10am with a pit stop for coffee then the car hire agent collected me and took me to their offices in Paisley. Hire car is a Qashqui again, I’m not that keen but it’s fine.
DM is champion. :j0 -
Afternoon everyone
csarina - if you're living in rented accommodation are you getting help with the rent by way of housing benefit? this is payable by either your local council or DWP. Also if you own your own home, you could get help with council tax - again apply via the local council or dwp. Do you qualify or get Pension Credit?
These benefits are means tested so it does depend on your income and any savings/assets you may have, but worth looking into to make sure you're receiving what you're entitled too.
It may be worth speaking to Age UK - they may be able to advise.
Hope this helps.
Keep safe and well x

After doing a lot more walking over the last few days my legs seem to have seized up so I am trying to sit down for a while, then walk round every 20 minutes , pop out to local shop and then put feet up etc.
My alarm clock seems to have a run down battery so I almost slept through it, Managed to go to shop and get more batteries and sort out the clock. My fit gadget had run out of charge so had to recharge that as well. Wouldn't it be great if we came with batteries?
House is now looking good as cleaner came round and window cleaner too and I did a quick tidy round and looked out fresh bedding.
Can't believe how much sooner it gets dark now even before the clocks go back and have been stocking up and doing some online shopping as well as finding a lovely throw for the living room at nearly half price.
A large pot of chicken, mushrooms and peppers has just come out of the oven and will be turned into chicken korma and chicken in tarragon sauce, portioned up and frozen ready for dd and sil to pick up when they next call. I even managed to order groceries online to be delivered on Tuesday morning rather than have to get on the bus and lug shopping home.
Nelski
Well done on remaining resolute and I am now hoping fervently I have not become like that (or will).
csarina
I had always assumed vaguely that the service was "free" or covered somehow so hope something can be worked out and allowance increased.
JackieO
Well done on finding the frying pan so quickly and clearly labelling it so it does not go missing.
Hugs to all0 -

We already get HB and CTB, we have too much income to qualify for Pension Credit, due to 2 private pensions each.......The office at our local Age UK is only open in the morning, when I phoned the person had to go away each time I asked a question to find out the answer. There is a question as to whether I am entitled to a carers allowance, but as I understand it if you are in receipt of a dwp pension you are not entitled to the allowance. Its all so confusing  I am sure those that operate the system do not really understand how it works.
No letter in the post so have to wait for tomorrow now.......0 -
Csarina Not sure if it's changed but I was in the last group of women who retired at 60 and the carers allowance I'd received for my dd stopped when the pension kicked in . Worth checking if it's still the case . Meanwhile sending you a hug and to all those here going through tough times .
Take care

Apologies for just dropping in to post but have you phoned Age UK Advice? It's a free advice line - I found it very helpful when phoning for some information/help for an elderly friend.
