Err, no. You can set it to Block All so no data should get through in either direction but it does.

Todays newly announced show stopping bug involves losing data. In Finder if you move data from one volume to another and the destination disappears, such as a wifi connection dropping mid-transfer, instead of the data still being there on the source computer until the move has completed, it completely disappears.

I would wait a good few months personally.

The problem with the firewall is that even under "block all" it still allows access to certain services.

It is not a issue at the moment afaik, as there is nothing out in the wild (trojans etc) on the mac that can exploit it. but its something that Apple need to sort out just in case someone comes up with an exploit for it in the future. So currently no risk but possible future risk if not rectified.

But if your paranoid you can always download a free firewall called Little Snitch for the Mac to control all your incoming and outgoing connections.

The "data loss" problem is actually something that's existed from previous generations of the OS. but obviously it gets more attention if its called just a leopard bug because of the new OS release.;)

Depending on your setup, you can choose to do either:

    1. A full 'clean install'. This will overwrite all programs and data you have on your machine and install Leopard over a completely wiped hard disk; hence the name. Obviously, it is essential that you have all your data backed up and original installer disks for your applications if using this method

    2. An 'upgrade install'. This will leave your data and applications intact, merely installing Leopard over your old OS. Additionally, a backup copy will be made of your old operating system, and it's wise to keep this for a while in case of the odd teething problem (pretty rare)

It's said that the clean install is best because it's the, well, cleanest solution; but I've done both in the past and never had any issues with upgrade installs either.

All you need to do in either event is follow the onscreen instructions carefully. Before you do any of the above however, it would also be wise to perform a few checks and preparatory actions on your existing system. There's a good guide about this here. and another here.

Horses for courses, really - good luck - although you shouldn't need it! ;)
