Fake Competitions?

Hello All!

I just wanted to raise a point really which is does anyone think there are some fake competitions (and im not on about myoffers etc) - more to the point, competitions on http://www.sci-fi-online.50megs.com/competitions.htm

They currently have a competiton for a 42'' TV but it seems a bit iffy that they are using a free website provider (50megs.com) yet are able to give such great prizes away?

i never enter there comps cause they take forvere to load in and crap set out,but you have a very good point, you see they are using a free website, what about all this email crap weve all been recieivng????wheres it all comming from?whos to say someones not selling on all our details????and using them to obtain credit and stuff as you put your date of birth name age all sorts, yes a very good point,im very wary of what competitions i enter now,i do belive that theres probably a few that are dodgy im getting tonnes of crap emails, and its not on.thanks for the post by the way its worth opening peoples eyes to this to be carefull.
    It`s getting to the point
  • Surely a website giving away a 42'' tv could invest in a .com domain rather that a free 50megs.com site? it just doesn't add up!

I have to say, I've entered loads of competitions over the past few months on that site & I don't get any more spam emails than I used to

They have referral links on their page so that when you go off to scout for the DVDs or Games you want to win with the Xbox or TV if you also ordered something then the site would make money. There are also direct referral links if you decide to buy something. Also there might be some deal with eBay as they have referral links going to there for another of their regular comps.

I guess it is down to each of us to make that decision as to whether to enter a site or not, although I'm grateful of you raising the point; it made me go take a long hard look at the website again :) but my personal decision is to carry on entering their comps.
Sad because you don't know what to do? Comping question? Take a look in the Comping Guide to find out

Not sure what you mean about fake competitions - I won a DVD with this site a while ago (when the comps were one entry a day:o ).

I've not had a load of spam either..

    I've won with this site.

I only get one email from them with updates, no spam.

A few months back the site was daily entry, they changed to single entry as it tells you on the top of their site. Seems an above-board site to me.

I think you'll find that not many sites provide the prizes themselves. The prizes are generally given to them by other firms / manufacturers. CantBarsed explained some time back that all his prizes were given to him.

Not sure what you mean about fake competitions.

i dont think theres noting wrong with this site
ike Gilla said these prizes are givin by marketers and promoters
amazon and ebay maybe kindly donate the prize.
i'd rather donate a good prize tha spend £10000's of pounds on advertising costs
