Options
Hi

I’ve just had a new combo boiler fitted and every time we turn the boiler on the cooker gas supply shuts off. Does anyone know why this would be ? Please help

It's a combi. Almost certainly because the gas supply pipe is inadequate to supply both devices simultaneously. This is a very dangerous fault and you need to get your RGI back immediately to investigate. Combi's often need an uprated supply pipe due to the heavy demand when the boiler is calling for DHW. Was this done?
Either he has failed to check the pressure properly, or there is an obstruction in the flow.

When i moved into my first (newly refurbished flat) I found that the gas hob flame went out when the new boiler came on. I then had to do an emergency gas call out the same evening due to a gas smell. The guy who came told me that the builder had fitted the wrong size pipes in the kitchen. I threatened the builder with a Small Claims Court application and they replaced the pipes.
  • It's possible the governor near the gas meter has failed coincidentally at the same time (which the gas emergency service will fix for free) but your gas fitter should have checked this when he fitted the boiler.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.
  • Report it to gas safe. If your engineer has failed to connect the new appliance to a suitably sized gas pipe supply making it dangerous then he/she needs retraining.

If your engineer has connected the appliance to a gas meter and or gas main that is not suitable due to a problem the he/she needs retraining.
