Would you work 7 days a week to pay off debt?

Hypothetical question - would you work 7 full days (more than one employer) if it brought in another 6 to 8k after tax which you could use to pay off a huge amount of debt.

or would the exhaustion, lack of social time, family time not be worth it.

7 days office related jobs.

  • I've been thinking about this seriously quite frequently and part of me thinks if I could just earn extra money for 6 months it would make such a dent in my debt BUT like you said I keep thinking but would I be exhausted and make myself ill and be miserable. I just don't know the answer I keep considering it then not really doing anything about it. I have a mon-fri 9-5 office job and I've thought of evenings or weekend work frequently. I only see my other half at weekends so feels like a big sacrifice to pay my debt off eaelier. I just don't know.

  • I used to work three jobs at over 90 hours/week to pay off debts. I could only keep it going for about six months though, as I discovered recreation is a necessary part of life too.

    I love my job

As it happens, the two days over the weekend would be at home so I could be as comfortable as I wanted in my office etc, but I'd still lose 8 hours each weekend day. But the pay would be worth it? I just can't decide...I've got an interview for the 2nd job. I don't want to impact my current job but I also really want to work for the 2nd company because they're pretty innovative. I have a son so thats my other issue

  • In a word YES.

I would make every sacrifice I needed to make sure the debt was
paid off and I was better off long term.

I believe in the motto 'Short term pain for Long term gain' :)

In the past i've worked a full time job Mon-Fri and a weekend job at the Supermarket.

I would, if it were for a defined period of time, with an end date, but would make sure I could book a few days off using annual leave during this period to minimise burnout.

Did it once for about 7 years, 70 hours a week (young an single at the time) wouldn't do it now.

  • Yes as long as I don't stay a slave to my work. Work is important but in order to have complete freedom, you must work to pay your debt.
  • I have done the whole full time job and 4 evenings/weekend job.

I have also done the 7 days a week stupidly long hours job.

First one I was a lot younger and was fine doing it.

Second one contributed to my health declining so now I struggle to do one fulltime job.

Maybe if it was for six months, you knew it would have an end date and would wipe a few debts off making the rest managable then yes. If it was for a few years, regardless if the setting you would start to feel it and wonder when it would come to an end.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear it in 2026.
  • I often work 7 days a week but sometimes only 3 hours a day. I usually work about 40-45 hours a week but have on occasion worked 60 hours. I have 2 jobs, one is 18 hours a week contract, the other is a zero hours contract so I tend to take all the shifts I am offered.
