Take your own cup and save 25p in Costa. It must have a sealable lid (at least in mine)

Any chance of a part time job in said Costa? If I was a student again that would be something I'd do I think.

or Go early enough in the morning not to be seen and visit McDonalds, get the large Latte or Cappuccino (alas avoid flat white as its tooo small) Saves you nearly £1 over Costa and fill the loyalty card with stickers and you get a free one each 6 you drink. And its quite good for a machine.

You can get ground Costa coffee for cafetieres in most supermarkets, eg

You can get a cafetiere for around £5
I always find ground coffee made at home (and in Waitrose) to be so bitter as to be unimbibable. I have yet to see if Costa has taken up my suggestion of introducing instant coffee to supermarket shelves.

Is Waitrose near you? If so, you can get a free coffee there when making a purchase. Their coffee is ok.
  • Fellow starbucks hater here. Leaves me really thirsty. Costa is more up my street.

When I have a bit more buck I like l’or. I’ve also found Aldi’s coffee (it’s their ‘premier’ coffee granules, not the dusty stuff) good for roughly 1.69.

I’m a student too, and I have a clue on how to grind/steep my own grounds.
  • The best ground coffee I have found is Aldi’s Alcafe (strengh 3) and is half the price of brands. I don’t much like instant but again the ALDI granuals is as good as any brands at half the price.

Some are, I tend to look for 100% arabica which is far less bitter than any instant I've tried. Also don't add boiling water - wait for the kettle to cool down a bit or add a little cold water - pouring boiling water on coffee does impair the flavour. I think the ideal temperature is 90-95 degrees.

    Is that the one?
  • I love fresh coffee and would rather go without than have instant.

I had good luck ordering with online roasters and asking for samples of end of line stuff.... Lasted ages. I found a cheap ish good grinder in eBay a few months ago and never looked back. Mazzer I think it's called, solid as a brick.

Aldi smooth beans are OK, nothing like Small Batch Coffee Throwback blend though which is amazing and second to that is Costa for me. Never Starbucks due to acidity....

Ye, buying from a micro roaster is the only way to get coffee that tastes as g0d intended. I just ordered some from Rave. They are good value for money and beans are roasted just a day or so before despatch. Unfortunately not many people are willing to go that extra effort to try it.
    Mazzer - good choice :)
