Switching supplier: final reading

I have just switched supplier and submitted my initial/final reading (to both) on 05-Sep-2018

Had a thought today that in a time of rapidly rising energy costs, I should have hugely overestimated my readings and effectively prepaid for several months fuel at the old, cheaper rates.

Has anyone tried this; did it work well for you?

Andrew

You could but I wouldn’t. The losing supplier will ignore the readings that you have provided.

Your OP gives an interesting insight too! (Into your honesty!)

MSE is all about saving money legitimately, not dishonestly
  • This is one of several reasons why smart meters can be beneficial - one of those is to stop customers committing fraud by submitting fraudulent meter readings to their suppliers.

Are you asking if anyone has committed fraud?
And if so, have they got away with it?

MSE does not permit discusiion of illegal activity, sorry.

Hengus was quick onto that one with the correct answer. Some customers go the other way and attempt to nick a few quid by putting in end readings well before they move or completely bogus ones to save even more.
The best thing is for suppliers to use their own estimates IMO.
Good advert for smart meters to stop this little fraud
