8 Weeks Since PIP Reassessment Claim Received - Still Nothing...

Options
Hi all :)

TLDR; Currently been 8 weeks since reassessment claim was received, is this normal? Advice?

I applied for PIP back at the end of 2017, I was accessed and a decision was made within a few weeks. I had cancer and suffered issues from surgery, but mostly effects from chemotherapy.

I couldn't survive, or improve my recovery without keeping busy and earning more money. So I had to go back to work. Thankfully I started a very accommodating job that fitted my needs with their own including working from home, certain times, etc. Unfortunately I'm still struggling with symptoms, some I've now reported to have worsened, but I'm back and forth to the GP anyway.

Anyway, I informed the PIP helpline of my change in situation, they stopped the PIP and said they would reassess me. Within a few weeks, I had another visit, then a few weeks later I had a letter to state that they had received my claim and will get back to me.

It has now been almost 8 weeks since I received this response. I contacted the PIP again helpline yesterday. The lady wasn't the nicest and very dismissive. I was told that a decision is still being made, no idea how long it will take, and that was it. Surely this is an unusually long time? And this is a reassessment too.

Can anyone advise if 8 weeks wait after a claim received is normal please? I'm concerned as the extra support will be very helpful. Frustratingly my situation is changing again where my I'm having new, worsening conditions but I dare not have them reassess me again!

Any help or advise is greatly appreciated, thanks!

:)

As they've stopped your PIP have they told you the reasons why? They don't usually stop a PIP claim for reporting a change of circumstances unless your condition has improved. Did you report a change because of worsening condition, because you started work or something else?

Usually another face 2 face assessment is needed and the time scales for this depend on the backlog in your area. It can be several months in some areas. Did you send in evidence to support your claim? They rarely contact anyone for this and the onus is on you to make sure it's sent.
  • Thanks for replying :)

Well I thought it was important that I told them I was going to start working in a new job that can accommodate me since I felt that I was able to move around better since the surgery, but unfortunately still having lots of symptoms. They said that this 'change' meant they had to stop the PIP and I had to be reassessed.

I had another face to face assessment probably 10-11 weeks ago now, with the correspondence following later to say that they received my reassessment report and will make a decision.

It's pretty much 9 weeks now since they received the reassessment report and no one has asked for any evidence of anything. Although I have plenty of evidence from my doctor if they do need anything.

They most likely stopped your PIP because you say you can move around better now and that's a good thing that you can do this.

Have you asked for a copy of the assessment report? If not then ring DWP and ask them to send you this, this will give you some idea what the decision will be as they mostly go with the report. Unfortunately there's no timescales to decisions. Hopefully not much longer now.
  • You can phone up PIP and ask for the PA4 report. This is the report the assessor makes after the assessment. I am afraid you may have to ask more than once. As Poppy says, this will often give you an indication what the decision will be, mine actually gave the points awarded for each descriptor. Once you have this, you can start preparing your MR if you disagree with the things the assessor reports.
