White Worktops

Hi All,

We are in process of planning to do our kitchen next month :j

I like the look of white or grey high gloss units with a WHITE worktop (yes I know white :o )

Does anyone else have white worktops as I am worried about staining like wine/pasta sauce/tumeric etc. I understand that Quartz is supposed to be good- does anyone have this?

Thanks in advance

    I have white Mirostone worktops.

They don't show streaks like black worktops do after cleaning.

Yes, they can stain briefly with curry or red sauce, but we're careful not to put containers on the tops and it bleaches out very quickly anyway - within a day or so.

I much prefer having white tops to black ones (she says, planning a black worktop in the next house!)

  • thank you! I really like the look of the white worktops but the staining is a worry particularly as they'll cost so much I suspect!

Ive heard horrors about the black ones as the streaking can be a nightmare to keep clean!

White shows dirt more than other colours, and more uniform patterns (such as quartz) more so than irregular ones (such as some granite types). But it does work well and looks nice imho, especially with darker surroundings. Having said that I'm going for black (granite) when the kitchen is done this fall. Old fashioned but what the hell.
For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.
  • Thanks all- Ill need to perhaps do a stain test with some samples before I commit to it!

I have some flecked white quartz worktops. Admittedly not in the direct cooking area but where they do get highly coloured food spilt on them occasionally. I have no trouble removing any marks with a normal washing up nylon scourer.
  • We have plain white laminate worktop. I ordered a sample and tried all the things that we use that were likely to stain, tea, coffee, curry, turmeric, ketchup etc. I left them for a few hours and they all cleaned off easily with either Jif or bleach. They have now been fitted for 18 months and still look fine.
  • Thank you all- that's keeping my white worktop dream alive!
  • We have white worktops at work. I think they're a corian-like material but they look good and have endured many tea, coffee etc spillages. I'm going to be getting white quartz at home. Really brightens the place up
