Should i wait before switching
Hi
Im about to move house, and am currently on the fixed v13 eon deal. It finishes on the 27th of this month, but i will be moving house on the 6th.
Is is worth me letting the current deal expire, pay the standard variable rate until i leave, and then once i move to the new place, find the best deal as a new customer?
thanks

Will the new deal have exit fees? If so, as long as you are definitely leaving on the 6th, it sounds like the SVR for once may save you money. Or be really sneaky & sort your transfer to another deal near the end date & they should honour the price until the switch by which time you will be gone. RISKY!0

For 9 days, is it really worth the hassle? If you started a switch today, it won't complete before the 6th October anyway.
When you move, you will be in a deemed contract with the existing supplier.

It depends on the terms agreed to. Some suppliers (maybe on some tariffs) will charge exit fees for a house move (but some may waive this if the customer then moves to the same supplier at the new adddress)
So basic rule is: Read the terms of any contract0 -

I think that First Utility will only waive exit fees if the customer stays with them after the house move:
I’m on a fixed tariff but I’m moving home, what do I do?
You can take your fixed tariff with you to your new property. As long as you switch your new supply to us within 30 days of moving home, you won't be charged an exit fee. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Thanks for that info. So that's one supplier out of 71 currently in the market. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Hello qwertyty and sorry for the late reply; just noticed your thread.
Hope the move goes well and you're soon settled in your new home. When you've a minute, please let us have details of the move. Dates, meter readings and a forwarding address will let us close the account at the property you're leaving quickly and accurately. We'll issue a final bill based on these readings and send it to your new address. Unless, that is, you've registered for paperless billing. If you have, we'll pop the final bill online and send an email to let you know it's there.
Totally appreciate the hassle involved when moving home. To help, there's a form on our website you can use to send us these details. Saves you the hassle of a phone call.
Following on from what others have said, exit fees don't apply when moving home. Also, as your fixed deal ends on 27 September 18, you'll be inside the Price Protection window (opens 49 calendar days before a fixed product end date until 20 working days after). This also means exit fees won't apply.
Hope this helps qwertyty. Let me know if you need any advice as happy to help and good luck with the move.
