just be aware smart meters now tell the suppliers and ultimately the DNO when the supply has gone off - hope you are aware of that if you think you are going to remove the cut out fuse.
That is true.Smart meters have built in sensors which will send back an error code to the supplier

.My colleague, a meter reader, was visiting a house to read the meters this year when their gasman was working on the system and had removed the gas smart meter.
British Gas phoned the customer to warn them they had received this information and asked why the gas meter had been removed proving that the smart meter error codes work.

I am having a new consumer unit fitted and my electrician told
me to contact my energy supplier EDF to fit an isolation switch I was told by an advisor that a smart unit would suffice. Today I had the smart unit fitted but the guy who fitted it seemed unsure as to whether there is an isolation switch. Looking on Internet I am no wiser. I have used EDF chat no help so has anone got experience of this. Thank you

In my flat which is a purpose-built sheltered property there are several isolation switches and these are nothing more than fused on/off switches in the circuits. I have one for each of fridge/freezer, washer and gas cooker ignitor and these are typically circuits that are left switched on 24/7 and where the electrical plug connection is hidden behind the appliance. In this context I do not understand why the isolation switches should not be fitted by a qualified electrician. Needing them fitted by an energy supplier is beyond my understanding.

Anthorn - on your internal distribution for fridge etc - yes a job for your electrician.

The isolation switch we are are talking about is in the meter tails which do not belong to the consumer.
