What types of payments incur fees?

in Credit cards
So I read online that paying by credit card is not always the best idea because you'll be charged a processing fee. Some online articles mentioned utility companies as being the primary ones which will charge you, so paying my BT bill or Eon bill by credit card may incur a fee.
Aside from contacting each company and asking them if they charge a fee, is there some kind of cheat sheet or common agreement about which kinds of companies will charge you for paying by credit card?
Thanks.

Companies cannot charge you a fee for paying by credit card.0
-
But they do not have to accept payment by credit card.0

And they can charge for paying by credit card as long as they also make the same charge for all other payment types.0
