    Depends what I'm doing.

    Cake/crumble mix - wooden spoon.
Soya mince & veggies to go in Shepherd Spy - different wooden spoon (I keep wooden spoons for "sweet" separate from those for "savoury")
Anything in the frying pan - heat-proof "fish slice" utensil.
    Sauce for pasta: silicon spatula.
Batter mix - gets made in the food processor.

Yes but much, much smaller. I've got the Tala one and it sits in the storm lantern glass I use for a utensil pot, because it's too large and isn't as nice a wood (it feels too grainy and light, compared to my spoon, which was my Granddad's and is probably a minimum of 35 years old).

  • Yes, mine is smaller - but thank you for finding that Yorkygirl, I might invest in one of those two.

My wooden spoon is just 1.5" across.

PS: I'm glad to find it has an official name - 'wooden scraper spoon'!

Wooden spoons, for everything. The only exception is a silicone spatula to remove cake mix.

I used a wooden fork for many years, it was perfect for scrambled egg and frying off mince, but sadly it broke in half. Next time I went to Asda I looked to replace it but no wooden forks. Tried other supermarkets same thing. Looked on the net but could only find 4 pronged, pointed end ones.

This actually went on for a year or so, couldn't understand it. Maybe it was just me unlucky, it's only a wooden fork fgs.

Finally found the exact replacement in H&M, thought it was a bit expensive but worth it to me.

Can you remember where you got it from? I want to get another but can't find the smaller ones.

Ooo, I can give a pretentious answer!

My spoons are hand carved from local wood by my older son.

I have 2 different coloured silicone spoons, one for savoury, one for sweet, but I always use a wooden spoon for white sauce or milk based cooking

  • Ah Jojo I have one of those with a squared-off corner, never see them anywhere or I'd buy another! The pointy bit is perfect for scraping scrambled eggs.

In answer to the OP - wooden spoons. The silicone spatulas are just for scraping cake mix out of the bowl.

I have a collection of wooden spoons from very tiny to one with a long handled one. I suppose I must have in the pot on the window sill around 8-9 of them.

One has a slightly squared bottom to it with a hole in the middle which is excellent for stirring sauces as it incorporates air into thick stuff, I think I have had that one for over 50 years now.I hate metal utensils and the horrible clanging sound they make,
