white paint

hello

I normally use waterbased eggshell paint on trims and doors etc.

I am redecorating and decided to repaint all the woodwork. I do like brilliant white as most of my walls are white.

I bought dulux trade brilliant white satin...water based...and have used it in one room (not great to work with and needs a few coats to get a good finish)...however, i have read that dulux white paint yellows and so hesitant to finish until i am sure this wont yellow.

It does say on the front of the tin that it stays white longer.

Has anybody else used this specific paint and has it stayed white.

thank you.

Dulux oil based gloss is notorious for yellowing quickly. However, the stuff you have purchased is water based and doesn't yellow. If you want an oil based product that stays white, use satinwood.

From various forums red the Farrow and Ball gloss does not yellow. it stays white with and without uv, so works in dark hallways. Apparently it is quite expensive, but also from forums that it does not always play well with other paints, so you have to buy the F&B undercoat too. It may take a few coats too.

However all reviews I have read say it stays white all the time.

Tried Dulux Quick Dry and on the other Leyand Trade High Gloss, after 6 months both look like a person who smoke 100 cigarettes a day lives there.... Satinwood is the way to go, but it is not the same.
  • Thank you for that. I love farrow and ball and their egg shell is so easy to use and i have used it on furniture - also have their emulsion on an accent wall.

The only problem is that i wanted an almost brilliant white and their only true white called `all white` is not as white as i wanted if that makes sense.

    thanks again.

  • The Dulux trade white gloss that I put in the hallway (which gets no direct natural light) is showing the first signs of yellowing after five and a half years.
