Cone air filter, Ford Zetec CDTI, 2006 worth it?

Hi! Straightforward old filter out, new filter in-no modifications/work?

Read somewhere it includes MPG/perfomence, correct? Not bothered regarding performance as tuned but extra MPG, especially if filter is a reasonable price, would be great.

Good idea/bad idea guys/gals?

It makes more noise, so your car sounds much faster, and that is about it.

If you are replacing the complete airbox, then you can make it run different, as the air will be hotter, less dense and you will get less power, so it should use a bit less fuel- although you could do that by putting a piece of wood under the accelerator pedal so it doesn't go all the way down.

Waste of money unless the paper filters are very expensive.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))
  • Question answered......thanks!
  • The way I would look at it is like this.

If all it took to improve MPG and performance was a simple air filter change, I think all manufacturers would be fitting that particular type of filter as standard as the MPG figures are one of the deciding factors a lot of people look at when deciding which car to buy.

Load of rubbish. Mighty Car Mods did an excellent Youtube video with dyno testing. Its all a load of rubbish. In fact one car I bought years ago with one on that the previous owner fitted actually ran better when I removed it and replaced the original air filter box.
