Hi. I am new and dunno how exactly put a new topic/question.
I have a problem. My partner is in debt. If he wants to get a DRO what expenses counts( I know about rent, electricity etc) I am pregnant and get £145 a week maternity....does it counts as well as an income because we live together? How much expenses we can write off for a baby when he will be born?
Thanks

Normally you fill in a statement of affairs, basically a budget sheet which shows all your income and expenditure.
If you live together you can choose to do a joint budget, or your partner can just do one for himself, as a DRO can only be done singularly.
To qualify for a DRO you must have no more than £50 left at month end before any debt repayments, also you cannot be a homeowner, have a car worth more than £1000 or any assets worth more than £1000, your debt must be under 20k.
If you are unsure what to put in your budget, ask the DRO advisor at either CAB or stepchange, he can only apply through an intermediary at one of the free debt charities.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. That's a good answer.
On his DRO application will be his income (not yours) and a proportionate share of the household expenses. That's why we would ask for your income.
So you earn £145per week. If he earns £290 per week, it's fair for 2/3 of the expenses to fall to him.
Every financial statement is unique but for two adults and a new baby I'd expect to see higher expenditure for a year due to nappies and 'baby items'. If you have any queries about particular items, ask.
On the income side you should be getting Child Benefit and Child Tax Credits if on a low income. There may be an impact on your housing benefit too.
He needs to start talking to a debt adviser who is a qualified intermediary for DROs and start putting some figures together.
When is the baby due?0
