Moving Home - Meters and Suppliers

Hello,
My sister purchases her first home next week. The property she is moving into is currently served by Eon on prepayment meters. My sister does not want prepayment meters and would also like to go with a cheaper supplier in the area.
Will my sister have to contact Eon and arrange for meters to be changed and use the prepayment meters in the meantime and then leave supplier after this has been done? Or is she able to call the new cheaper supplier and arrange this ready for when she moves in providing the new supplier with the meter readings?
Thanks

She will need to take on the current supplier first.
She can then either get them to change the meter out (they will do a credit check) or start the process to move to another supplier and get the new supplier to change it.0 -

She cannot change supplier until she has a supplier.
So she needs to contact Eon on day of completion , then she will have a supplier.
Only the supplier at the time will change the meters (if they agree) so she should not try to both change supplier & meter at the same time.
Expect to wait anything from 2 weeks to possibly as long as 3 months (according to some MSEers) from acceptance before the supplier will change the meter. The supplier should be able to indicate how long it will take on acceptance.0 -
Just check first that the meters are not smart meters.
Eon now use Secure Liberty meters which can be used in prepay or credit meter mode and easily changed by the supplier at the flick of a switch.
That is just one more money saving plus factor of smart meters.0 -

Hello Cameron1590 and sorry for the late reply; just noticed this thread.
Hope your sister's move went well and she'll be happy in her new home. Already some good advice on here - thanks all. To confirm, if she lets us know the date she took over responsibility as well as meter readings for that day, we'll set up a new account for her. She can send these details through our website if this will help. Once done, she can start a switch to another supplier.
With the prepayment meter, we won't charge to change this to a credit meter provided your sister passes an external credit check. Timescales to do the work will depend on the region and the technician's workloads at the time.
Hope this is of interest Cameron1590. Let me know if you need any more details as happy to help.
