Watch out when listing this weekend

A bit of a warning.

Just tried to relist a few items, and I got a 'fees amount of £8.05' instead of zero - for that 100 free listings per day thingy. (I cancelled it as soon as I saw it)

Gone into my overview, and it says that there is a 'promo' which says.. 'No insertion fees and 35p extra at sale on up to 100 auction/fixed price listings per day'
So, are they saying that they are charging for listing even though it says 'pay nothing'?
Even more so that in the overview, it states that it starts at 12am 8/9 till 12am 9/9. But, when you go to Ebay, the header page says 'Pay nothing to list this month, then it's the normal final value fee plus 35p when your item sells.'
So, now we will pay a FVF, listing fee, and they will still take off 10% for p&p fees?
I'm confused now. Help!!

There have been lots of changes to the private seller promotions and it pays to check exactly what eBay are saying- we all have different offers. There's a thread here:

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5868118/private-sellers-read-your-ebay-offers

However the 35p on sale offer should not trigger the charge at listing, it should only apply on a successful sale (unless the offer has changed again) as it's free listing, but normal FVFs to pay + 35p.

It would therefore seem that you have triggered a charge for another reason, try listing one at a time and see exactly what the charge is for. You may have other requirements like needing the auto re list enabled, or it might just be objecting to the bulk re list.

I had a sell for free offer that would cost £1. Not exactly free then.

My offer has also changed, last month it was BIN with OFFERS and GTC, today the offer is BIN or AUCTION, which means when my items with BIN/OFFERS/GTC from last month relist there will be a listing fee.

Keen to know, (to avoid a relisting fee) if I cancel my items before they relist - will there be a fee?

Ought to mention, I did suspect this and was watching every morning for the change in the offer.

I came across a business seller (on my favourites) who reduced their 3,000 items to the lower shop allowance, then have opened up quite a few private accounts and selling their excess items on these accounts (400+ items and 100+ that's the ones I have came across), their fees are going to shoot through the roof  , if they get the same offer as myself on my account (private), unless watching as I have been.

  • Should have thought of this sooner  , so just ended one of my listings, to see if there was a charge and unless it takes a while to appear, then the answer is no, no charge. :)

Everyone has different offers, both my main private accounts still have the 100 free listings a day with no additional t and Cs. Unregistered business sellers' are a bug bear of mine but frankly it is difficult to blame them when business sellers have nothing offered yet a 'private' seller can virtually list an unlimited amount.

I rarely use my private accounts, too busy with my business shop, but knowing I could actually list almost as much per day across 2 private accounts for free as I can in one month for a cost in my shop is disconcerting. My shop costs me £30 per month and for that I can have 250 BIN listings and 50 auctions, across my two main private accounts. Assuming a 30 day month I could list 6000 items for free and often with a slightly lower FVF. I do have another account as well, for buying and haven't even checked that to see if it's getting offers.

Only last month I saw a seller in the same categories as me, using very similar descriptions to me and with well over 2000 listings on a private account, they even had a business name and talked about their stock and business, it's not even worth reporting them anymore as eBay don't care.

    Thanks for replying.
I noticed on that link you posted, that there was a member on here called 'Snowbelle' who had the exact same 'offer' as I have just had, and it sounded like they were as confused as I am.
I think I will leave it for the rest of the weekend with the listing, as I don't make much profit anyway with my items, and this supposed 'offer' will not help me at all.
The way it's worded is completely badly written. Although from what I can make out, they charge the 35p first, so I think that's why the listing fee came up. It's just a rip off as far as I'm concerned, it wouldn't be so bad, but that 10% on the P&P will still be charged. They'll be raking it in.

Simple answer to it all. Restrict the number of listings on a private account.

Debate would be - how many items to allow private sellers.

They've added 35p to my FVF as well.

I raise the price of all my items to make up for ebay's greed and thus less items sold and less money for ebay. I've recently had fees of over 15%, ebay 10% plus paypal was over 5% because buyer used an overseas credit card.

If I have to pay anything for listing I am no longer going to use ebay because the fees are just getting ridiculous.

Wish there was a decent competitor out there to provide ebay with some much needed competition.

There's definitely some relisting glitches doing the rounds. I tried to relist 30 together and a 35p listing fee was shown for each. Doing one at a time, no fee. Then tried various multiples, sometimes a fee, sometimes not. Took ages....
