Been lurking on here for years and years and thought that as lots has changed in my life recently that now was as good a time as any to start a wee diary.
I’ve recently moved in with my OH. We’ve only been together almost 6 months but he’s the most amazing man I’ve ever met and I’m very happy. I still have my own flat (private let) until the end of this month. I have loads of stuff to get rid of and I felt rather sad today looking around and realised that I’ve spent SO much money over the years on useless rubbish.
I have around 30k of debt. I’ve really struggled with paying these over the years and pretty much just stopped paying everything and haven’t been opening letters for a while. I’ve spent a long time thinking about the reasons why I’ve spent this amount of money and the things I’ve spent it on. I’m utterly ashamed to find myself in this position but it’s done and now I need to work my way back out.
This may be a bit controversial but…..I want to have a good life whilst paying off these debts. I got myself into this mess at the age of 18 and pretty much went crazy for a few years before reining it in a bit but I took out a few loans over the years just to make ends meet. I’ve missed out on holidays and so on for years and years and now I want to enjoy my life on a budget whilst getting rid of the debt.
Everything is a bit of a mess at the moment so really need this diary to keep me on the straight and narrow. Hoping this diary will be about my weight loss journey (I spend soo much on food & not the right kind!), becoming more organised and busting these debts
1. Sort out old flat - get rid of things (Ebay, car boot, donate, dump) and clean
2. Find out who I owe money to - I know I haven’t paid council tax, internet or gas for months so need to find out the final amounts I owe
3. Get organised for my holiday at the end of the month - sort insurance, car park, transfers, euros.
4. Sort out new house - organise and tidy out. Make sure we are maximising space
5. Take better care of myself
6. Lose more weight - hoping for 10.5lbs within the next 3 weeks which is totally doable if I put my mind to it
7. Go out somewhere once a fortnight, cheap or free
8. Write letters to debt companies to change address and set up payment plans
9. Be more careful with money - stop spending money on rubbish!

I should have mentioned - I'm not going to post an SOA as I pay £350 to my OH and he deals with all the household bills. I pay my car, phone, petrol and car insurance. These are all at the lowest they can be and I'm happy with what I am currently paying.

Hi and welcome :hello:
I understand that you may not want to post up an SOA on the forum, however I would suggest that you do one for your own benefit. It will help you see where you may be able to make savings on your outgoings and so build up savings or have more money to pay off debts etc.
Some folks post up their SOA's so that other folks can help spot the things that they have missed; sometimes it takes an outside perspective to see what's what, IYKWIM?
So, join in and visit, read and comment in other folks diaries. If you need any info or advice on anything just post up and someone will pop along to help
Good luck on your journey

It is important that we know where we come from, because if you do not know where you come from, then you do not know where you are, and if you don't know where you are, then you don't know where you are going. If you don't know where you're going, you're probably going wrong.

Hi. I just started a new diary too. A lot of your 'debt' story resonates with me. Wishing you lots of luck on your journey!0

Thank you all for your interest and replies on little old me's thread! After posting on here I had second thoughts about keeping a diary, mainly because I don't want anyone to know it's me. However, now I've had second thoughts again (third thoughts??) I really do need somewhere to ramble on even if no one actually reads this at least it will be somewhere for me to record what's going on and sort out things in my head.
The only thing that has really changed since I last posted is that Mr Daydreams and I have spoke about moving house. Mr D currently has a mortgage for the home we live in just now and he would be getting a mortgage in his sole name for the new place (I have zero chance of getting a mortgage due to my mountain of debt and poor credit history). He would hopefully be able to get some money from the sale of this house and would be looking to buy a doer upper. The ultimate dream (in my head anyway!) is to make some money on the next property then move on and do it again and again. I would LOVE to pay off my debt and be able to get a mortgage so that we can do this together. Anyway we have been talking about this for a while but today we are actually going to see a property.....potentially exciting times ahead!
In other news I've had a few good sales on EBay today thank goodness. This is all extra money going towards Christmas. I have sooo much stuff to sell & my mum has bags and bags she would like me to sell on her behalf as well. Really want it all gone asap. Plan for today is to get 10 things on EBay and get the things that have finished today off to the Post Office.January Make £20 a day - £0/£6200
