Question about leasehold charges

Hello

So my situation is that I live in a townhouse shared with
2 other houses and 5 flats which are all in one block.

My lease states that I must make a fair contribution to the upkeep of (in any) communal areas.

I have no access to the communal areas as you need a code to access the flats and the words "in any" are used in my contract.

Could I argue that this is a generalisation and I should not pay towards the upkeep of these areas if I have no access to them.

This hasn't happened, I'm just forward thinking as I hear the horror stories of leasehold. As it stands I pay a reduced rate for the outside of the block.

Regards

  • Yes it is what I want, but I was just trying to get an idea about what I could argue against and what I is expected so I can avoid any nasty surprises.
