Cost of replacement gas fire installation

Hi,
our 15 year old living flame gas fire needs replacing. No other work needs done.
Been quoted £470 (inc VAT) for this. Seems a wee bit steep. Is that about right?

To be honest, that's a bit like me asking if £12,000 is too expensive for a new car I'm planning on getting but not saying what that car is.
Without having some idea of what fire you intend getting, there is no way that anyone could possibly know if £470 is too much.0 -
Hi, thanks for reply. Existing fire is a 16 inch inset Crosslee Royal Cosyfire.0

I think the OP means that the install cost only has been quoted at £470?No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I paid £450 for just the labour a couple of years ago to have a brick fireplace removed, walls & floor made good, new wood & marble fire surround fitted & old gas fire swapped for a new one.
If it's just labour you're talking about it's a lot. If it includes the fire then as others have said it depends whether its a Rolls Royce or a Reliant Robin.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0 -

my gas safe plumber charged me £80 to fit my new balanced flue gas fire, which included knocking out and preparing the outlet to the outsidewall , toal time 3hours approx.:)0 -
I had a inset fire fitted into an existing surround, I supplied the fire so gas fitter removed the old one and connected up the new one in it's place. That cost me around £100, about 5 years ago.
For £470 I'D be expected that to either include the cost of the new fire or if it's labour only, then a lot more work on the surround, flue, walls etc
One more thing..... make sure you pay a bit more and get a high efficiency model, the difference can be large and over say a 10 year life gives a big saving.0 -
Apologies for not giving enough info.
Would be a custom built Nu-flame to fit space. No chimney or other work.0 -
I would be supposed if it was custom built. Maybe additional surround is being added to a standard Nu Flame. See their web site for models such as these:
