Ok, complete non techie alert.
I have a new phone also a Samsung and I need to transfer the numbers from my old phone to it.
Whats the easiest way to do this? I think some numbers are stored on the phone and some on the sim.
Does this complicate things?
Thanks as usual

i would not store them on the sim. they should be linked to your google account and transfer when you login.

there are several ways to transfer data to the new phone. when you first fire up the new phone it will guide you through the options

Just make sure your contacts are backed up to your google account. When you log in to your new phone they'll automatically transfer over.
  • Hi,

I've used this before with no problems.

There are a couple of ways to do it

on the old phone you can go to your contacts and back them up to a VCF file this will be stored on your phone you can then connect the phone to your computer via a usb cable and copy over the VCF file to your hard drive this will be useful as a backup should you ever lose your contacts. on your new phone plug it into the computer and copy back the VCF file to your new phone and then go to contacts and import them from the VCF file t

the second way to do it is using Samsung Smart Switch which I believe copies most things from your old phone to your new phone easily

I would recommend spending a bit of time on this.
First make sure your contacts are linked to your google account.
Then go into each contact and make sure it is linked to your google account rather than stored on the sim or phone.
Once you are done you will be able to see all your contacts and manage them on contacts.google.com.
Once you sign in to your new phone with your google account they will all be there.
Each time you add a new contact just link it with the google account.

Post #6 has the answer for you.
Your contacts should be restored when you sign into your Google account on the new phone anyway.....

Samsung have an app that copies all your setting from one phone to another.

If I dropped my phone into the river right now, all I need to do is buy a new phone and login into my google account

Not sure why Samsung users specifically really seem to struggle with the whole cloud concept - I dont know of a Samsung owner that gets it - Must be something lacking in the Samsung phone user instruction. My friend (and Samsung owner) just asked me to show him how to use Google because he's on his forth Samsung and each time has lost everything.
