Cheap travel from Edinburgh to Manchester?

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone can help me (again!!)?

We are off to Florida on 29th March 2008, returning 6th April 2008.

Unfortunately our flight is from Manchester (we're in Edinburgh) so we have a hotel booked for Friday 28th March but we don't know what the cheapest/quickest way to get down to Manchester is?

Our preference: 1. Train 2. Plane 3. Bus

Can anyone find or help me find cheap prices for them?

Thanks in advance

p.s We need return for the 6th April
:D....It's nice to be nice.....:D

Megatrain will be the cheap way to do it but I doubt you'll be able to get it in March when Transpennine Express takes over (Megatrain = stagecoach, Virgin Trains = 49% owned by stagecoach). Apart from that, I havent seen any availabilities for any day on Megatrain Edi - Man route recently.

Best bet is for you to wait until Advanced fares get released sometime in the new year for your travel dates. Dont know what the fares are going to be like though, prices will change on Jan 2! for reference, current cheap prices start around £10 each way for adults.

Plane - You can pick up FlyBE flights from £19 each way. There are some flights for march 28th at this price atm. April flights arent released yet.

Bus - you can forget it, takes far too long!! National express are pretty much useless for this route (I saw one of it being something like 9hours long :S), other option'd be to take citylink from Edinburgh to Glasgow, then megabus Glasgow to Manchester.
  • Is driving an option? You can probably leave your car at the hotel.

From experience, door to door it will definitely be quickest (assuming your not leaving/arriving in rush hour) and not hugely expensive.

Thanks for your reply, unfortunately neither of us drive so at present (unless we can find someone to drive us) this is not an option.

I would wait for the transpennine express advance fares to be released - they operate directly from Edinburgh to Mancester airport and will be the quickest, simpliest and probably cheapest way!
