at no point over the whole process of getting here and in any social services meetings was I informed that I would have to contribute. I've got my SS worker looking into it and I'm speaking to a solicitor. - How are you paying for solicitor?
I feel like I'm being coned( and for the first time I'm actually trying to do the right thing with my money to save for the future of my baby and I'm getting that taken away from me. - where is your money coming from?
They are asking for a contribution, but originally they wanted 75% of my money! They said that you should be able to live on £25 p/w but didn't take into account money I want to save - And? We all 'want' to save, but that's clearly not the priority at this time - to me 75% of your money is not a contribution is the bloomin' majority( - a contribution is based upon the cost, not your income. If it was for example £2,000 a week, and they wanted you to contribute 10%, it wouldn't be the majority...
It's not necessarily the rehab, it's my local authority who have set this amount - but the fact I was never advised and surely if I'm fully funded - that means fully funded. Otherwise you are part funded - in which case you know from the beginning how much, how often etc you are to pay.
Also - this is my second part of my treatment - in the 3 week first detox part I was not asked to pay a penny. - So perhaps you were fully funded only for part 1?
They now trying to make me agree to pay 40 p/w out of my £98.55 ESA and they will wipe the outstanding debt so far. I have weekly outgoings of £31. So that leaves £27.55, if you take into account the £25 they are allowing me to live on I still can't save any money. - This all seems very reasonable from them. No-one is stopping you earning.
I'm very frustrated about all this. I think a fair contribution is £25 p/w - and that is on top of them being fully funded so they are getting all their money paid to them anyway - I'm looking at that as a charity donation. - Well you're at an crossroads then. If you don't agree I suspect your treatment will stop
But at the end of the day - if I am fully funded should I be paying anything?
I will ask my key worker exactly the terms of my funding.
Thanks for all the advice - I'll let you know what happens.

I think you should concentrate on your immediate needs and worry about saving after you complete the programme0 -
Is that £98.55 ESA payment weekly, fortnightly or what?0
-
As others have said, your funding is income based, your ESA is classed as income, your desire to save has no bearing on the cost of the treatement you are receiving.
Let them have your ESA, focus on getting well for your baby and when you get out of rehab you can get a job and save as much as you like.0 -

How ungrateful are you?
ESA is paid to cover your living costs.
If you were not in rehab, you would have to pay your living costs.0 -
I desperately need some advice please as I am worried my placement is being threatened and I am pregnant which may mean social services could take my child
That is a real possibility so I suggest you concentrate on getting 'clean' rather than trying to avoid using any of your own money to pay towards your treatment. The cost to you will be far less than the alternative highlighted above if you refuse to pay and are taken off the programme.
It appears to be a choice between keeping all of your money or your baby!0 -
Your Living costs come out of your ESA. Are you receiving meals there?0
-
You must be saving a fortune due to the fact that you are no longer purchasing drugs and / or alcohol on a daily basis.0
-
25% of my money is paying for your rehab, your savings, and almost certainly your entire living costs for the next several years. I'd love to save it. But then, where would you be? Get over yourself and be grateful that you've been given a chance. The fact you are in rehab is about your bad choices. Good on you for deciding to make better ones, but don't complain about the fact that you are lucky enough to be able to make them using other people's money.
Absolutely spot on sangie!!0 -
I've moved this thread from the pension board to the benefits board for you as I think it's likely to get better advice
Frankly I think better advice would have been available on the pensions board or at least it would have been stated less unpleasantly. What happened to being nice to newbies?
OP sorry you were lied to about your contribution, they probably did it to avoid you not going ahead because of the costs. But good for you getting clean & staying that way for your unborn child. I hope when you finish rehab that you will have help to make it possible for you & your child to thrive in your new future.0 -

What on Earth are you talking about?
You don't know that she was lied to.
Honestly, why do you expect people to be nice to posters who have absolutely no gratitude at all for a service that everyone else is paying for?
Rehab places are so hard to get and yet people begrudge paying peanuts towards their stay.0
