Can insurance sites check speeding fines?
Hi I was just making a new insurance quote on compare the meerkat and the section asking "Have you had any convictions" and it's autofilled it with a £100 fine for exceeding motorway speed limit.
To the best of my knowledge I have never had a speeding fine. Has the website used my car registration to check for motoring convictions?

Did you give your driving licence number? If so, it'll have pulled it from that.
Does https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence show anything?0 -

Did you put in the speeding offence when getting quotes in the past? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Can you remove the conviction?0

If you did not enter your driving licence number it could not have checked your convictions (and I'm not so sure that such sites can anyway). Motoring convictions are held against individuals' driving licences, not vehicle registration numbers.0

As far as I'm aware the only way 3rd parties can check your licence details is if you provide them with a code as in check my licence on GOV.uk. They need your NI number for that.0 -

But insurers etc have systems with direct access to DVLA, no need for any code.0
