Credot Scoring

My husband has just tried to transfer his current credit card to a 0% b/t card. However although he checked out his rating on moneysupermarket.com first with Equifax and was given a rating of excellent he was not accepted by either Halifax & Mint. Now I have read all the info posted on this site regarding what to do I now realise that applying for two credit cards in a row and being declined might not help his credit score.
However, I took out an IVA last year for my self only but I am wondering if my husbands credit score is getting hit becuase we are at the same address, also how long should we leave it before applying for another credit card?

The credit score ratings you get from Equifax do not mean a thing when you apply for a card. Each company will score an application with their own internal scoring. Just because Mint and Halifax declined him, it does not always mean he is not credit worthy. He may not fit the profile of customers they are looking for at the moment. Do you have any joint accounts with your husband? If so that that you are in an IVA may affect his credit rating.

    Hi,

It is likely that you may be financially "linked" on your Experian, Equifax, or Callcredit files (or all three). I would definitely suggest that you get a copy of each report so that you can check. If this is the case, you can contact the credit refererence agencies and get yourself un-linked.

You can get a copy of your credit reports for £2 each- details should be on their websites:

    www.experian.co.uk
    www.equifax.co.uk
    www.callcredit.co.uk

Please note that the credit reports for £2 are the statutory reports, not the online services (although some of these companies do have a free trial offer).

    Hope that helps!
  • Thanks for your reply - No we do not have any joint accoounts. Since taking out the IVA I have made sure everything is seperate.
  • I don't know , we haven't checked out the credit people yet. We will have to send off for each one and see what what we get.
