Garage had car for 5 weeks help!

Hi sorry I'm new here so if I'm posting in the wrong area I apologise.
5 weeks ago I noticed diesel leaking under my bonnet so drove to the local garage (car still ran perfectly) they couldnt do anything that day as fully booked so I drove away hoping to get it booked in asap. Later that day I parked up and then returning to the car it wouldn't start.
Rang AA who said they suspected their was a fault with injector 3 causing it to break the rubber seals causing the diesel leak and now it had got air in the system hence not starting.
I called the local garage I had been to earlier and asked if i could have the car recovered to them which it was.
This was on a Saturday. I called the garage on the Monday to explain I had AA breakdown repair cover so they would pay the first £500 of my bill. Wednesday this claim was authorised after the garage had given the AA their official diagnosis of faulty injector 3.
Friday I call for an update to be told my car hasn't been touched but parts have been ordered.to cut a long story short my car wasn't touched for the following 2 weeks as apparently the part hadn't arrived even though I was told on 2 occasions they were actually working on my car they finally admitted they weren't.
So now we're 2 and a half weeks in with me calling almost daily for updates to get told they can't start my car after replacing injector 3 and they now suspect it had an ECU fault.
AA at this ok point refuse to pay the repair for injector as 1 it hasn't fixed the problem, 2 had no ECU faults before and 3, had been wrongly diagnosed by the garage.
The garage agree to have one of their contacts come and look at ECU as they don't deal with them. He was supposed to come the following day. That was 2 and a half weeks ago.
I've been robbed off daily with different excuses even told my car was loaded onto a lorry to be taken to the specialists garage as he couldn't get out to then be told her coming out.
Not once has this garage contacted me I'm constantly chasing them.they have had my car 5 weeks now and although I've not paid them anything it's cost me hundreds in hire cars.
Where do I stand and what should I do now?
Thanks in advance

Hold on. If the AA misdiagnosed it in the first place, where's their responsibility in all the mess that followed? The fact that someone else has seemingly misdiagnosed it after them shouldn't mean they get of scot free from covering costs as part of the breakdown cover. But you need to read the terms to find out. Staff on the phone will tell you anything, knowing that most consumers will take it as gospel.
In terms of the garage carrying out the work - they sound like shysters. If after 5 weeks your car isn't even close to being fixed, I'd be telling them that you have lost faith in their ability to carry out the repairs to a satisfactory level. As they have done next to no work, you shouldn't be paying them for anything. Find another reputable garage and don't let them touch your car in future again.
Unless you have it in writing for a date for the car to be fixed, I think you'll struggle to claim anything from them. They could argue that no promises were made about the timeframe to carry out the work, or there was no contractual agreement that cover this aspect of the transaction.0 -
Ford main dealer had one of my new Transits for 5 weeks and they still had no idea what was wrong with it.
Some places are useless.0
