Sure Thing! Dashcam
Just done a few quotes and most are coming out around £900.
Sure Thing! Dashcam is coming out at nearer £500, so.... what's the catch?
https://www.surething.co.uk/car-insurance/types-of-cover/dashcam
I followed the links from the comparison sites I used to see if I could examine the Ts&Cs but no luck - I am hazarding a guess that part of the terms are that I have to get the (free) dashcam installed myself and have to use it on every journey, and have to upload the footage in the event of an accident. If I forget to use the dashcam to pop up the road then I would think I am uninsured...or perhaps the insurance just goes 3rd party.
Has anyone here got this insurance and care to clarify the exact terms?

Not really answering your question but....
If you go for this get the dash cam hardwired in and just leave it there, it will come on automatically each time you use the car. Easy enough DIY install.
You can still remove the camera if you are worried about it being nicked.0 -
Normally I'd agree, but yesterday I spotted my Nextbase camera wasn't working- at least there was no picture on it but the blue light was on, pulling the adaptor out of the cigarette lighter socket, waiting until it made "the noise" and putting it back in fixed it.
If it had been hard wired, I'd have to stop and switch off, or pull the camera out of its mounting.
Like the OP I wonder what would have happened if I hadn't noticed, had an accident and the dash cam was part of my policy terms?I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

My son has a "telemetrics" box which gives him cheaper insurance. The box is I believe the responsibility and property of the insurance company. If it doesn't work it's not his fault and they would have to come and fix it.
I doubt that's the same with this policy which on the face of it is offering a free (if entry level) dashcam, but if it goes faulty will I be expected to stop driving? Too many questions and not many answers from their FAQ at the moment.0 -

You save £400 on the insurance so you may as well pay Halfords the £30 to install it, as mentioned on the Surething site. Once it's there you just ignore it & let it do it's thing.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

Sounds like the screen saver is switched on in the settings menu it can be set to switch off the display after a set amount of time, the blue light just indicates the battery is being charged.
Mine comes on with the ignition, and had only been on 5 minutes, probably just a "glitch" easily fixed by the IT Support Standard method though - this time
I had to get it working, or I'd surely crash, it has become my Juju to ward off accidents....I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

You should be able to get a dash cam which has a plug in charger not one with a built in wire... I had an old sat navigation hard wired but you'd just unplug it to remove it. My current dash cam has a mini USB charger that runs to the cigarette lighter, I can unplug it at either end.Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
