Question regarding Amex Membership Rewards

Hi all,

I'm currently an Amex Green card holder and I'm looking to buy a new computer within the next month or so I figured that since I'd be buying this with the Green card and then paying it off in full at the end of the month anyway, that I may as well apply for the Amex Gold Credit card and take advantage of their 20,000 points membership offer. Now my question is, since I've held my Amex Green April of this year, I heard that I'm not eligible for any Amex welcome offers for any other card for the year since I originally applied for the Green card. Is this true? Or will I be able to take advantage of this offer? I can't seem to find any clear answer online.

Do you earn MR points with the green card?

I do yes. But there was no 'welcome offer' with that card or anything.

Unfortunately you can't get the welcome bonus with the gold card. My advice is go for the BA card or SPG card and earn that way.

Long term cancel your green card and get the gold in 6 months.

Oh really? That's a shame. Is there anything on their website at all that clearly states this since I can't find a thing?

It's in the small print that if you're enrolled onto any card with Membership Rewards six months prior to applying for a new one, you won't get the points again
