Firefox: highlight active tab...?

Since the TabMixPlus add-on stopped working in Firefox, I've found it really hard to identify (at a glance) which tab is active. TabMixPlus let you change the colour of the active tab, so it really stood out against the others.
I've managed to modify the userChrome.css file to enable multi-row tabs (another feature from TabMixPlus), but I can't seem to find a way to change the colour of the active tab.
I've googled and found lots of userChrome.css code snippets, but none of them work -- presumably they were for pre-Quantum versions of Firefox(?).
I try to limit the number of add-ons I install these days, so I'd prefer to find a solution by modifying the userChrome.css file. It must be possible, right?! :-D
Has anyone found a solution to this problem?

I tried for a while to find anything or any hacks to get something like Tabmixplus. In the end I give up and installed PaleMoon which will run Tabmixplus (and many other addon's that FF stopped with their upgrade).0

You could use this https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/tabs-closebutton-restored/ which allows you to only display the close button on the active tab only4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Thanks, but having read the article below, I'm a bit concerned about running Firefox forks for security reasons. And apart from this one issue, I quite like Firefox.

Again, thanks, but it says that it's not compatible with Firefox Quantum. :-(0 -
