POF after signing tenancy agreement
I just signed the tenancy agreement for a 1 bed flat and because I am not employed at this moment, I decided to make a 12 months rent payment up front (£8100/ £675/m). The customer experience with the EA was horrible and I was constantly rushed to sign and pay for everything as soon as possible otherwise risking to lose the holding deposit respectively the flat.
I did as required as soon as possible and today I got the keys and a copy of the signed tenancy agreement. However, a couple hours after I left the EA office I was called and informed that I have to provide a POF for my tenancy as it might be considered money laundering.
I have no problem showing them the source of my funds as they are from a saving account I have in my home country but I find it weird that they are asking for a POF after the tenancy agreement has been signed.
Am I legally required to show them anything else (in this case a bank statement )after the agreement has been signed? I know from different forums that this is a standard procedure but only prior to the singing of the tenancy agreement. (Considering that I have already paid £380 for the referencing agency fees... which I thought their main task was to find out if I was a safe tenant)
Thank you in advance for all your help!
Best,
Alex

If they have a money-laundering concern then that's going to trump the tenancy agreement - you can't make someone accept money of dubious origin just because you're implementing your obligations under a contract. If you have no problem doing it then I suggest you do it, despite it being irritating that they've made the request at a relatively late stage.0

It’s not going to trump his possession of the flat though, he’s got the keys now.0 -

The EA has slipped up and should have done this before setting up the tenancy.
Did they check your residency rights? By law they should have!
I wonder what else they did not do properly......
But so far as the money is concerned, I would offer them what proof you can of where the money comes from. There is no point being obstructive. But if it does not satisfy them I don't see what they can do. I suspect they just want to tick the box in their file though to show they've done it.
Did they give you
* EPC
* gas report?
* Government leaflet "how to rent"
* have they protected your deposit and given you the PI?
