Royal Caribbean cruise - misleading "offer"

  • Thanks, I am coming to terms with the fact that I just missed out on something. I suppose it's natural to feel the way I do but your comments have helped me to accept it. I'll have to look at it as I have a chance to spend an additional £600 to get the $1800 of drinks packages (although it irks to think that I would have got them thrown into the deal had I booked less than 24 hours later, when he "too good to miss" deal had finished).

I still think it's bordering on malpractice to claim something as being "too good to miss" when it clearly isn't but I'll try not to let it spoil my holiday.
It was too good to miss thats why you didnt miss it

I do feel that it is unfair the UK bookings don't have the same conditions as US bookings do.

In the US you retain the right to return of deposit until final payment and you get any price drop until that point also. Those two points, along with US customer service are why we always book via a US based TA.

Who do you use as a matter of interest?
  • We use an agent called Karen Finch from Cabin Clearance Company. She is very responsive and in addition to the great prices, and booking flexibility they always add in a good amount of OBC. You do have to check promos are for both UK and US markets though. For example, Royal rarely give a drinks package to US customers but they do to UK ones, but they make up for that with OBC. With Celebrity bookings, you get both.

camelot1971 - I presume that's a tongue-in-cheek remark? I fully expected that the prices would have gone up the next day because the offer was described as being "too good to miss" and there was a prominent countdown banner on the website enticing me to book before the deals expired. As it turns out, when the deals expired they were replaced by better deals. So to describe the initial deals as "too good to miss" was misleading and was a deception.

reason2 - I can indeed cancel and rebook, that may be the best route, but I'm still £600 out of pocket due to the deception.

Its ok folks no deception occured here, carry on walking.
  • You’ve just got to hand it to the OP coming onto a money saving forum to complain about a company and its promotions rather than why the !!!! 8 full days of alcohol cost £700 freaking quid! Looking at the T&C’s of the deal and the cruiseline are laughing all the way to the bank.

The only crime I can see here is how a cruise company is allowed to market a promotion where the break even point would (in my understanding) lead to a dangerous amount of alcohol consumption. Didn’t Scotland introduce a minimum per unit alcohol cost to prevent this sort of thing?
