Firstly, could I have no judgemental comments please.
Situation is, my cousin, who is 16 and has just left school is pregnant.
She currently lives with her mum who works full time.
Is their anything my cousin can claim at the moment as she isn’t currently working?
I’m thinking with her age she won’t be able to?

A lot of information here

And here

And this should be worth working through

Can I suggest that she goes to her local CAB for advice and information0 -
I dont know about someone that age but i believe adults who claim unemployment benefits continue their usual regime until a certain point and then transfer onto something else. So i guess until they are at the stage that they arent expected to work etc that they would be expected to do what everyone else their age is expected to do, college, training, work etc.0

All under 18s are supposed to be in training, education or employment but I don't know how that is going to work with your niece.
If she was remaining in education, your sister(?) would be able to claim CTC & CB (or UC) for both her daughter and her grand-son/daughter (after their birth).
Obviously all benefit claims are affected by household income.
The best thing your sister(?) could do is to get an appointment with the CAB and get some proper advice.
Best of luck!0 -
Sorry, I posted niece and sister when they are not.
Where I have put niece, I meant cousin.
And for sister, I meant aunt.
Sorry.0 -
Will the baby's father be able help - or is he of a similar age to your cousin?0
